Lutheran Women’s Guild Recipes: Tater Tots!

CONTRIBUTED TO SBINSIDER BY LE CENTER MN. WOMEN’S LUTHERAN GUILD: January 11th, 2026
This recipe is the epitome of comfort food from the hearts and kitchens in protestant southern Minnesota ladies with a hot dish to share.
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cans cream of chicken soup
- 1 can of milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- 1 12 oz pkg mixed vegetables
- 2 pound package of tator tots
Brown the ground beef with the onion. Mix the beef with the soup, milk, seasonings, plus vegetables and spread over a flat pan. Spread the tator tots over the top. Bake for one hour at 350 degrees.
Editor’s note: It is commonly understood that Sven and Ingrid Tator of Lutefisk, Minnesota are credited with the discovery of the now famous “tater tot.” The event occurred in January of 1880 during a mild blizzard in Le Center. This hot dish is also credited as the favorite of every Norwegian bachelor farmer. Accent with ketchup for perfection.
