Shooting In SaddleBrooke, No Injuries

BY SBINSIDER SUBSCRIBER AND STAFF| September 7th, 2024

It is a fact that all of us are not as sharp mentally or as physically fit as we were 20 years ago. Unfortunately, one of our residents apparently was suffering from paranoia and decided to protect herself by firing a gun insider her home. The laws in the US and Arizona especially are biased toward the individual and the 2nd Amendment right of keeping weapons in your own home and in Arizona, open carry in most public spaces, which makes it very hard for law enforcement to intervene until a serious incident. In this case, the law was allegedly broken as discharging a weapon in a residential area is illegal.

EDITORS NOTE: This incident was revealed in the following email sent to residents of Unit 4.

On Saturday morning, August 31, Judy Ackers (38140 S Rolling Hills Drive) discharged a gun both inside and outside her home, causing damage to a residence across the street. Fortunately, no one was injured–but these actions understandably caused fear and frustration among her neighbors. As your Unit Representatives, we want to assure you that we are communicating regularly with Judy’s family, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department, Vivian Timian and SB One Patrol. Here is what we know at this time:

  • On Saturday afternoon, Judy was taken into surveillance in Casa Grande and will remain there until at least Friday morning. Mental health and law enforcement professionals are assessing the situation to determine (within the parameters of the law) what is best for Judy and for our entire community. We understand she has a court date in a couple of weeks.
  •  Judy’s nephew flew here from Kansas to work with the authorities. In addition to Judy surrendering all weapons and ammunition, her nephew searched the home thoroughly and found nothing more.
  • Formal charges will be filed for damage to the home across the street. In addition to the several calls to the Sheriff that we have placed to date, this will provide further documentation for making the right decisions.
  • Vivian (Timian) is in regular contact with the SB One Board and the Pinal County Sheriff’s office. All members of SB Patrol are aware of this incident. Remember, they cannot intervene in people situations like this…their role is to protect HOA property.

SBINSIDER will follow-up with any police reports in this sad story.
