Head down to the University area of Tucson for a Foodie Field Trip to Roma Imports of America. It is a hike at 627 S. Vine Tucson, AZ 85719. Taking about 45 minutes to get there, it is well  worth it.

While we visited Roma Imports, there was a steady stream of customers, many driving at least an hour to get there. There are plenty of helpful staff to assist you with your Italian import needs. This can range from the rack of olive oils and vinegars imported from Italy to the case full of fresh Italian delicacies. From the case you can select fresh caprese salad, figs stuffed with gorgonzola and walnuts, or marinated mushrooms.

Drive down in the morning and stay for lunch. The Ultimate Roma sandwich alone is worth the trip. Filled with capocolla, salami, mortadella, mozzarella, giardiniera (hot or mild) roasted red peppers, lettuce, tomato, and a balsamic vinaigrette. The crust of the bread was crispy and with the fillings listed made the best sandwich I have had this century.

We tried some of the frozen foods and were not disappointed. Stay for lunch and try the lasagna. If you like it, buy one to store in your freezer. The ultimate Italian fast food, it will be at the ready when have the need to taste almost homemade Italian cooking.

And don’t forget dessert. An assortment of brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and of course, cannoli. Enjoy!
