Daniel Penny and Bernhard Goetz, History Repeats in NY Subway
SBINSIDER NEWS\ANALYSIS\OPINION| December 14th, 2024
In 1984, the streets of New York were riddled with criminals and the subway riders were at risk daily from mugging.
Bernhard Goetz, had been mugged previously and had enough of being a victim. He jumped on the subway armed with a pistol. From Britannica:
In the afternoon of December 22, 1984, Goetz shot Barry Allen, Darrell Cabey, Troy Canty, and James Ramseur while riding the number 2 train in New York City. The incident began when Canty asked how Goetz was doing. Goetz interpreted the inquiry as a prelude to a mugging. Canty then approached Goetz and asked for money. Goetz produced a .38 calibre handgun and shot the four youths. Goetz later stated that he shot Cabey a second time, after saying, “You seem to be all right, here’s another.” The shot severed Cabey’s spinal cord and resulted in his paralysis. The conductor heard the shots and engaged the emergency brake, bringing the train to a stop. Goetz stepped from the train and disappeared into the subway tunnel after briefly checking on two nearby passengers. Reports indicated that the youths had three screwdrivers in their possession.
Goetz was not a redneck, blue collar wage earner, he had degrees in electrical engineering and nuclear engineering. He was starting his own business.
The Goetz jury, several of them personal mugging victims and all of them likely knew somebody who had been victimized, did not convict on anything except illegal possession of a handgun. Goetz had to spend less than a year in jail for self-defense with a non-approved weapon by the state. One could suppose that if he stabbed the criminals with a butter knife that would have been OK?
Fast forward to contemporary New York and thousands of criminals now roaming free due to the invasion of illegals with criminal records and the no-bail laws that create a revolving door system of arrest and release. New York has voted to surrender its streets to the worst humans who exist.
The predictable outcome culminated in the Black Mayor, Eric Adams, who has been very publicly trying to get help from the idiots in the Biden administration, getting indicted by another group of geniuses at the Biden Department of Justice. Ok to speak up unless it is against the Democratic power structure.
Meanwhile, Daniel Penny a former Marine (White man) riding the subway (with the other poor people) intervened to stop the actions of a certifiably crazy (diagnosed schizophrenic) homeless drug using Black man (the key to this) Jordan Neely. After Neely threatened the passengers, Penny used a neck hold to subdue Neely until police arrived-Neely was alive when taken into custody but died later on the way to the hospital.
Neely was exactly the kind of criminal who makes inner-city living a risky act. Arrested 42 times, and hospitalized multiple times for mental illness, New York society is run by deluded Leftists have decided that the higher virtue is to allow living trash to walk the streets unfettered while tax payers who obey the law are victimized daily.
What the hell is wrong with these people? Does white wine and an Ivy league degree inflict that much brain damage? I speculate that if Neely had attacked them personally they might feel in some way, they deserved it, but luckily Neely didn’t attack a pet of theirs which would be unacceptable to the elites.
The jury has on all charges, despite the juge trying to manuever the good citizens to convict on a lesser charge. Like Bernhard Goetz, Penny being acquitted on all charges upholds the right to self-defense is not negotiable when faced with a Jordan Neely. You can bet the other passengers on that subway were damn glad Penny stepped up and did the right thing.
Of course, the father of Neely, long absent in his son’s life has vowed to sue for wrongful death, another case of legal extortion by a man who could not have cared less about his son, until a payday was in the offing.
